Toes up vs Heels Down
Riding instructors have emphasized the importance of keeping the heels down for years. While I agree that the heel should be lower than the toe, I believe that excessively forcing the heel down can restrict mobility and hinder communication with your horse.
My suggestion? Consider a different approach: focusing on lifting your toes instead of pressing your heels down. This adjustment can enhance your ability to give cues effectively, maintain a stable position, and move in harmony with your horse.
During your next ride, experiment with both pushing your heels down and lifting your toes up. Notice any changes in your body and observe your horse's reactions. Can you still communicate cues effectively with your heels down? Does it impact your upper body or your horse's behavior?
By keeping your toes up, you can achieve a well-balanced, secure, and steady position while riding.
